"Life is Like a Bowl of Cherries"

Oil paint on canvas - framed

26"x30"x2"

This painting feels lush, layered, and almost overflowing with energy—it’s not just a still life, it’s more like a moment bursting apart.

At the center, there’s a bowl filled with cherries, but they’re not rendered in a clean, realistic way. Instead, the cherries dissolve into thick, expressive brushstrokes—reds, pinks, and deep burgundy tones that bleed into one another. The fruit feels alive, almost vibrating, rather than sitting still.

The background is a swirling mix of cool blues, mint greens, and soft whites, which contrasts with the warm reds of the cherries. These colors don’t stay contained—they blend, scrape, and collide, giving the whole piece a sense of motion. It’s like the air around the bowl is shifting.

The surface texture looks heavily worked—thick paint, scraping, layering, and reworking—so you get that tactile, almost sculptural quality. Some areas feel built up and dense, while others are thin and wiped away, creating depth.

The ornate gold frame adds an interesting contrast:

  • The frame feels traditional and structured
  • The painting inside is chaotic, modern, and expressive

That tension actually makes the piece stronger—it feels like a contemporary explosion inside a classic boundary.

Overall mood:

  • Energetic
  • Slightly chaotic
  • Sensual and rich
  • Painterly and emotional rather than literal

It’s less about “a bowl of cherries” and more about color, movement, and abundance.

AI says...

Life is Like a Bowl of Cherries is a vibrant abstract painting that blends rich colors and bold textures to create a sense of movement and emotion. At its center, a cluster of organic red and pink forms suggests a bouquet of flowers or a pile of petals, bursting with energy and warmth. Surrounding this are sweeping strokes of blues, greens, and whites that evoke a serene beach landscape, offering a calming contrast to the lively core. Thickly applied paint builds a tactile surface, inviting viewers to experience the painting’s depth and complexity both visually and physically. This piece captures the interplay between natural beauty and emotional intensity in a lively, textured composition.

I say... I started this painting as a beach scene. I added a bowl of cherries that ended up exploiding into the sky. Flowers where also an inspiration.

I’m pleased to introduce my newest oil painting, *Life is Like a Bowl of Cherries*. Measuring 26 by 30 inches, this abstract piece explores a dynamic interplay of color and texture. At its heart, a grouping of organic shapes in reds and pinks suggests a bouquet or petals, set against a background of blues, greens, and whites that create contrast and atmosphere. I worked with thick, textured layers of paint to bring movement and depth, aiming to capture both natural forms and an emotional intensity. The idea came from a simple image—a bowl of cherries resting on a beach—but the process became about expressing the texture and feeling that emerged along the way.
